A Lecture on Eric Harvie: The Founder of Glenbow

Lawyer, oilman, soldier, philanthropist, collector; Eric Lafferty Harvie was all of these things. He was also the founder of Glenbow Museum and the guiding force behind its first collections. Beginning with Western Canadian history and art, those collections would grow to include objects as diverse as medieval armour, South American feather work, Indonesian puppets, Coptic scrolls, and African house posts. It would also grow into the largest art collection in Western Canada. Join Daryl Betenia, Glenbow’s Manager, Collections, as she talks about the history and evolution of collecting at Glenbow. Meet in the Glenbow Theatre. Entrance to exhibits not included. This talk is presented in partnership with The Chinook Country Historical Society - The Chinook Country Historical Society is a chapter of the Historical Society of Alberta and therefore supports the vision and mission of the provincial society, preserving the past for the future.
